Shamsah Lakhani, MPH, PA-C, an oncology specialist and student in the DHSc program published an article in the Supportive Care in Cancer Journal in Springer Nature.
"[I am] grateful for the support and feedback from all my classmates throughout these two years, and the support from all the faculty, and especially to Dr. Scalzitti and Dr. Maring for their guidance, support, and mentorship throughout the seminar series," said Lakhani.
The review, according to the journal, explores current palliative care referral patterns at an academic cancer center and provides recommendations for operationalizing palliative care services as a program within comprehensive cancer centers in order to adequately meet the needs of patients with advanced cancer.
"It's a big accomplishment that this manuscript, which was worked on throughout the program, was taken from conception to publication! Shamsah is definitely advancing the body of knowledge through action-oriented research and scholarship," said Skip Gill, DSc, PT, professor of the DHSc program.
Other study co-authors of the Springer Nature publishing include David Scalzitti, Laura Padrone, and Diana Martins-Welch.
