Why GW?
I chose the GW DHSc program because I was motivated to pursue a doctoral degree to advance myself and my career. It was an easy decision since I already work at the GW Hospital. I love getting a degree from the George Washington University as a hospital employee because it allows me to connect with people associated with the GW that I would otherwise not interact with.
It is not easy to work full time and be in school but seeing the direct benefit from this program makes it all worth it!
Leveraging Coursework for Career Advancement
The assignments have allowed me to engage in conversations with leadership that I would otherwise not have been able to. Recently, I had to interview the director of rehab services at GW, a person whom I have minimal interaction with. It was a wonderful opportunity to interview him and get to know him on a deeper level.
In addition, during Program Theory, I developed a pre-op total shoulder replacement rehab program that required me to closely collaborate with one of our orthopedic surgeons. Again, this was a project that allowed me to develop relationships with individuals that I normally do not work with. Through this program, I've been able to develop deeper connections with colleagues and advance my skills.
The program materials are directly applicable to my current role. Each semester, I have been able to put the material I am learning to practice.
