Overcoming Barriers
The Doctor Health Sciences program stood out because it incorporated the two things that I was looking for: a focus on leadership and then a focus on education. Oftentimes there's a barrier to reaching leadership roles or to moving into education where a doctorate level education is preferred, and I felt like I needed a challenge. I needed to do something that was outside of just day to day clinical medicine to add to my skillset to kind of broaden my expertise.
My favorite aspects of the program have been the education courses in the leadership track. Getting a moment to focus on education, education theory, and developing curriculums and assessments was very interesting and beneficial for me.
The best aspect of this program is learning things that were unexpected and developing in ways that I wasn't anticipating.
Experienced and Supportive Faculty
The amount of expertise that are concentrated among the faculty here is really astounding and stands out compared to other programs. One of the biggest benefits that I've felt being part of this program is the faculty and their support and engagement. Faculty members are so experienced and knowledgeable in their fields and are really experts, something that I wasn't expecting coming into this program and those faculty members have been supportive throughout the entire program and particularly as we reach the end and are engaged in our research projects. Having that one-on-one guidance from a very experienced and renowned faculty member in this field has been incredible.
During Residency Weekends, we really get a chance to sit down and have one on one conversations, not only with our assigned faculty mentor, but also with other faculty members who can bring in a new set of eyes to your project.
The amount of expertise that are concentrated among the faculty here is really astounding and I think really stands out compared to other programs.
Personalized Projects
Our projects are tailored to our own experience in our own work environments, and that's one of the nice things about this program. We all get to come in with different backgrounds and then use our own areas of expertise and our own backgrounds to then apply what we're learning in the program to carry out our projects through seminars one, two or three.
