She has also served as the former associate-editor of the Journal of Physical Therapy Education, and has worked extensively with underserved populations such as those with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

“Dr. Joyce Maring has been active in the APTA for many decades and her service is unparalleled. This well-deserved honor and achievement is based on her commitment to the educational community through her work, leadership, and research,” said Ellen Costello, PT, PhD, interim chair of the Department of Health, Human Function, and Rehabilitation Sciences and professor.

Department chair and associate professor of physician assistant studies, Mary L. Warner DBH, PA-C, commented that, “This award is a well-deserved recognition of her far reaching impact on the physical therapy profession.”

In reflecting on her involvement in education and mentorship in the DHSc program, Dr. Maring said, “The biggest reward is the opportunity to work so closely with students who are pursuing leadership pathways, whether it be in clinical practice or education. We have a fantastic student body from all walks of life and many disciplines that have been a joy to work with.”

The Lucy Blair Service Award will be formally acknowledged by APTA's Board of Directors at the APTA Leadership Congress to be held in Kansas City, Missouri, July 19-23, 2024. An official announcement will appear in a publication by the association.
