DHSc Alumni Selected as Director of Physical Therapy Program

Marisa Birkmeier, DPT, DHSc, an associate professor in the department of Health, Human Function and Rehabilitation Sciences was selected to be the director of the physical therapy program at the George Washington University.

Dr. Birkmeier has extensive leadership experience, including her roles as the director of clinical education since 2009, and the associate director of academic affairs in physical therapy since 2022. She has also been elected to serve in national leadership roles, including co-chair of the clinical educator specialist interest group, which works collaboratively through research and treatment to positively impact the lives of individuals and families who are affected by neuromuscular diseases. She is a board-certified specialist in pediatric physical therapy practice and is a highly regarded clinician, educator, and researcher.

"After graduation, I feel equipped with the skills and abilities to be a productive educational researcher and higher education leader. I look forward to applying knowledge from the program in my new role as the Program Director for the GW Physical Therapy Program," said Dr. Birkmeier.

Dr. Birkmeier begins her new role on July 1, 2023.
